The Liverpool head coach admitted that it's natural for questions to be asked about his position after a further convincing loss versus the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their ninth defeat in twelve matches, marking the club's poorest streak after being relegated in the 1953-54 season.
They were dominated by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at Anfield.
“I am feeling safe, things are alright, I have got plenty of support from above,” the coach commented.
“It would be nice to change things and get a victory of course but if you are in a managerial role and underperforming then it's expected that doubts arise.”
He added, “I'm comfortable with my position. It is not the initial instance I've found myself in a challenging situation but it's crucial that we changed our fortunes.”
When asked to provide details on his conversations with the club's leadership, Slot revealed:
“There's regular dialogue. They are supportive to the team and to me and we discuss these matters but they don’t call me all the time of the day to say they back me.”
He mentioned, “Through standard discussions I feel the belief. However I haven’t spoken to them since this game so far so let’s see.”
Slot lamented known shortcomings from his team in their European defeat, namely poor finishing and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, player Jones was more forthright in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to all,” Jones said.
“It is unacceptable. I don't need to wait to think about it. I’m past getting mad internally. I’m at the point currently where I simply lack the vocabulary.”
He added, “It's tough because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I’ve seen Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Reds side enduring a period of this nature with performances this poor.”
Jones concluded, “But we still have the emblem on our shirts. And as long as that badge is gone, we'll continue to fight.”
“We’re going to try to bring this squad return to its rightful place, demonstrate to all once more what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the planet.”
“But right now, we're in trouble and it must improve.”
